JERUSALEM: The Covid-19 cases across the world have been decreasing for the past few weeks. As a result, Covid restrictions were eased in several countries. However, concern has resurfaced with the recent reports of a new Covid variant detected in Israel. Two such cases have been confirmed as well.

‘Two new cases have been recorded of a new Covid variant. This variant is still unknown around the world’, stated Israel’s Ministry of Health. The strain, combining two sub-variants of the Omicron version of the Covid-19 virus dubbed BA.1 and BA.2, was recorded during PCR tests on two passengers arriving at Israel's Ben Gurion airport. The new variant does not require any special medical response, said the ministry. The major symptoms include mild fever, headaches and muscle dystrophy.

Deltacron had also been a strain formed out of the combination of Delta and Omicron variants. Flurona, a combination of Covid and Influenza, was also first recorded in Israel. Flurona was detected in last January.
