KOLKATA: A minor wife was attacked with acid by her husband for attending Class X exams. The incident took place in West Bengal. The husband attacked the girl in front of the examination centre. The girl, who sustained severe burns on the face and upper part of the body, was admitted to a hospital. The police have arrested the accused.

The couple got married during the last lockdown period. After the birth of her baby, the girl continued her preparations for the exam but her husband was not interested in it. On the day of the exam, the accused had called his wife and asked about the location of the examination centre. He soon reached the centre and asked the girl not to write the exam. She told him that she would attend the exam at any cost, following which he threw acid on her face. The disagreement with his wife over continuing her studies is what prompted the attack, the accused said in his statement.

The girl's sister said that the girl and her husband had constant arguments over whether to continue her studies after marriage. As she was a good student, we tried our best to let her write the exams, said the school authorities. The girl’s condition continues to remain critical, said the doctors.
