NEW DELHI: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Rameez Raja recently said that no one would want to play in the IPL after certain changes are made to the Pakistan Super League. This statement was not well-received by the Indian fans as the PCB chairman was heavily trolled on social media. Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra is the latest to prove Rameez wrong by bringing facts into the debate. He said that the PSL will not be able to achieve the standard of the IPL just by shifting the Pakistan Super League from the current draft system to the auction system. The former Indian cricketer is backing up his arguments by quoting figures on his YouTube channel.

Chopra said that even looking at the average between the amount Chris Morris received in the IPL last year and the number of balls he played, it is higher than the salary of players in other leagues. In his YouTube video, Chopra clarified that it is doubtful whether anyone would be willing to invest that much in Pakistani cricket, even if the selection of players is done through auction.

Aakash Chopra says that the reason why the IPL is so successful is because of the people of India who are willing to spend any amount of money to watch cricket and such a fan base is India's strength and unique to the nation.

As a first step, the PCB intends to call an auction for the players, just as in the IPL. Currently, in the PSL, teams select players through the draft system. Rameez Raja reckons that if the players are auctioned like in India, the revenue will increase. In addition, the board also plans to increase the amount teams can spend each season. Rameez Raja had said that after all these changes, the Pakistan Super League would become one of the best cricket leagues in the world and no one would be interested in playing in India after that.
