NEW DELHI: A Delhi woman has accused former tennis star Maria Sharapova and former F1 racer Michael Schumacher of fraud. In her complaint, Chattarpur Mini Farm native Shafali Agarwal alleged that both Sharapova and Schumacher had embezzled around Rs 80 lakh from her in a real estate scam. The police, which received the complaint file, have filed a case against Sharapova and Schumacher under sections 34, 120B, 406 and 420 of the IPC for fraud. Apart from them, 11 others are also accused in the case.
In her complaint, Shafali said that she and her husband had booked a residential apartment in a project named after Sharapova at Sector 73. She also said that a tower in the project was named after Schumacher. The project was to be completed by 2016 but never took off, Shafali added. She accused the international celebrities of being part of the fraud through their association and promotion of it.
The complainant alleged that Sharapova had dinner with them to promote the project and that the stars' relationship with the project boosted their confidence in the company.
