CHARUMMOODU: Three people, who went for a morning walk, were killed after they were run over by a speeding lorry. The deceased have been identified as Nooranad Erumakkuzhi native VM Raju (66), Erumakkuzhi native Ramachandran Nair (73) and Panayil native Vikraman Nair (58). Another person, named Rajasekharan Nair, was injured in the accident. The accident took place at 6.15 am on Nooranad Pallimukku - Anayadi road at Palamukku.
Driver Aneesh Kumar, who drove the lorry, later surrendered by around 10.30 am. All the 4 victims of the accident used to go for morning walks together for the last few years. They were returning from Vellachira when they were hit by the lorry. Witnesses said that the lorry sped past without stopping after mowing the four down. VM Raju died on the spot. Although the other three were rushed to the hospital, Vikraman Nair and Ramachandran Nair were later pronounced dead.
The vehicle was identified after checking CCTV footage obtained from a nearby house. The funeral of expatriate VM Raju will take place later. Wife: Lizzie. Children: Anand and Ambili.
