KOZHIKODE: It has been 50 years since the first woman police station in India was built based on PM Indira Gandhi's idea. Kozhikode Women's Police Station, which was inaugurated by Indira Gandhi herself, has turned 50 years old. Plans are being made for the grand Golden Jubilee celebrations. Then Chief Minister C Achutha Menon, Home Minister K Karunakaran were present during inauguration on October 27, 1973.

Indira Gandhi came up with the idea of ​​a women's police station at a time when crimes against women was rising in the country. She also announced that she would inaugurate the station. Today there are about a thousand women police stations across the country apart from Women's cell.

The station was started with ten policemen. The uniform of the women police was white sari. Padmini Amma from Thiruvananthapuram was lucky enough to become the first SI in a women's station after receiving the station register from Indira Gandhi. She remained here from 1973 to 1979 and retired as SP. Now the 43rd SIV Sita is in charge of the site.
