THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A dispute continues in the Congress party over the selection of Rajya Sabha candidate. The state leadership will continue discussions with the high command today on the candidates. Many names are under the consideration of the leadership. Reports said the list prepared by the state leadership has the names of M Liju, Shanimol Usman, V T Balram, Satheesan Pacheni, M M Hassan and Mullappally Ramachandran. Though talks were held in Delhi yesterday no decision was taken. M Liju and Sreenivasan Krishnan might be the frontrunners in the polls.

KPCC chief K Sudhakaran along with M Liju met Rahul Gandhi yesterday. Soon after the news broke, prominent leaders from Kerala came out against Liju. K C Venugopal and ‘A’ group came to the fore demanding that those defeated in the elections recently should not be considered as a candidate. Senior leader K Muraleedharan too was of the same opinion.

Meanwhile, there was pressure at the national level to field Sreenivasan Krishnan, the AICC secretary in charge of Telangana, as the high command nominee. However, no decision was taken as there was strong opposition in the state.

Meantime, LDF Rajya Sabha candidates A A Rahim of the CPM and P Santhosh Kumar of the CPI will file nomination papers at 2.30 pm today.
