KOCHI: The District Collector has ordered an inquiry into the incident in which four workers were killed in a landslide at a construction site in KINFRA Park in Kalamassery. Collector Jafar Malik also issued an order to suspend construction work. The collector also informed that the ADM has been directed to inquire into the accident.
He said that if there was any failure in the construction work, strict action will be taken against the culprits.
Meanwhile, the search is on for the person who got trapped in the mud. The deceased have been identified as Faijula Mandal, Kudoos Mandal, Naujesh Ali and Noor Amin Mandal, all residents of West Bengal. Muhammad Noorullah is still trapped in the ground. Seven workers were injured. Two people who were taken out shortly after the incident escaped with minor injuries. Later, four more persons were taken out from the mud during the search and taken to Kalamassery Medical College but could not save their lives.
The accident took place during construction at Electronic City near Kalamassery Medical College. The incident took place around 2 pm on Friday. While excavating for a deep pit, the soil from the top fell on the workers. The fire brigade and locals are conducting rescue operations at the spot.
