FEROKE (KOZHIKODE): Meenakshi from Kozhikode is all set to secure a place in the Guinness Book of World Records as the smallest mother cow in the world. Meenakshi, the three-year-old cow of dairy farmer KM Mohammad Basheer, is only 76 cm tall. She is a Punkanur breed cow from Andhra Pradesh. She only gives half a litre of milk daily. This cow gave birth on February 22. The current Guinness World Record for the smallest cow in this category is 90 cm. Basheer says he got Meenakshi like a destiny. She was pregnant while buying her. He then applied for the Guinness World Record. The information is expected to be available within three months. Meenakshi got the Universal Record for cows in this category. Minister PA Mohammad Riyas will present the award at a function to be held at Saheeda Manzil this evening. Sunil Joseph, chief editor of URF World Records will be in attendance. Basheer, who is interested in taking care of rare endangered native cows, has ten native cows in his barn. He is the President of Karuvanthuruthy Service Co-operative Bank and also the Feroke Area Chairman of Integrated Organic Farming. Basheer follows in the footsteps of his father Unni Hassan (Bawa), a dairy farmer.
