NEW DELHI: It is not right to blame the Gandhi family alone for the Congress’ defeat in the assembly polls in five states. All party leaders are responsible for it, said senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge. After meeting the G-23 leaders and Sonia Gandhi, Ghulam Nabi Azad had spoken about keeping the party together. It is a good sign, he said.

The G-23 leaders had asked for a change in leadership in the Congress. ‘We have always wanted that everyone should come together to strengthen the party. We are all responsible, mentioning Gandhi family alone is not right’, Kharge said. While talking about the meeting with party president Sonia Gandhi and Ghulam Nabi Azad, he said, "Azad has been in the party for years. He knows everything, so he talked to signatories there. He met Sonia Gandhi and has spoken about keeping the party together. It's a good sign.” Azad had met Sonia Gandhi in Delhi, on last Friday. They have talked about strengthening the party, Kharge said. “The meeting with Sonia Gandhi was good. All members of the Congress party decided unanimously that she should continue as the president, nobody said that Sonia Gandhi should quit”, he added.
