THODUPUZHA: "I had five children, not three, sir ...Mehrin and Asna were my children. I'm not going to live here without them."-Rahul cries outs in pain. Rahul's family used to look after Mehrin and Asna while their parents Faisal and Sheeba are at their shop in Cheenikuzhi. Rahul is devastated that he couldn't rescue the family who begged for help right in front of his eyes.
Rahul and his family live opposite Faisal's house on the Cheenikuzhi-Peringassery road. The two families have been close since Rahul started living here 17 years ago. They celebrated Vishu, Bakreed, Christmas and children's birthdays together. When Rahul sent his daughters to train in martial arts at a Kalari in Udumbannur, he enrolled Faisal's kids as well. Even on the night of their death, the two kids returned home after saying goodbye to Rahul. Rahul received a call from Asna at 12.45 am on Friday, and on attending that he heard loud screams, "Help, save us please!"
Rahul went down at breakneck speed. He kicked open the front door closed by Hameed and went inside. There was fire everywhere, and the smell of petrol and smoke pervades the house. Rahul managed to kick open the bedroom as well. This time, Hameed came through the back door and threw two bottles of petrol from behind Rahul. The bed in the room caught fire. With this, it became impossible to save the family who were inside the toilet. There was no water on the tap or in the fridge to put out the fire. Rahul's family called others and came to the rescue. The family, including Faisal and his daughters, had succumbed to their injuries as they put out the fire.
