THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: An all-party meeting was held following the High Court order regarding the erection of flagpoles on the roadsides in the state. In an online meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, various leaders who participated in the meeting demanded that political, religious, community and cultural organizations in the state should not be denied the opportunity to campaign.
The Chief Minister presented various proposals during the meeting. Roadside flagpoles may be allowed in a manner that does not obstruct traffic. It should be stated in advance how many days before the event the flagpoles will be erected and when they will be removed. Flagpoles may be erected on private property or on their walls with their permission. Flagpoles can be erected on the roadside with the permission of the concerned authorities. Public campaigning should not be done by obstructing traffic and pedestrians. These proposals were approved by the meeting.
Opposition Leader VD Satheesan, Law Minister P Rajeev, Chief Secretary VP Joy and leaders of various political parties were present at the meeting. The proposals made at the meeting will be communicated to the court as public opinion. The Advocate General has been tasked with this.
