IMPHAL: N Biren Singh has been once again elected as the chief minister of Manipur. He was elected by the state BJP legislature party meeting held in Imphal on Sunday.
BJP central observers Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced the decision.
The BJP top brass has been discussing the government formation in Manipur after the BJP won an absolute majority in the state for the first time. This is the second successive term for the party in the state.
Former footballer and journalist Biren Singh was one of the key figures in the Manipur Congress. He left the party in 2016 and joined the BJP. In the 2017 Assembly elections, Biswajit Singh, a senior BJP leader at the time, was nominated for the Chief Minister's post, but BJP unexpectedly handed over power to Biren Singh.
