ISLAMADABAD: The army has reportedly asked Prime Minister Imran Khan to step down as there is a possibility of no-confidence motion being passed by the opposition in Pakistan.

Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa and Director-General of the ISI, the Pakistani spy agency Lt. General Nadeem Anjou and four senior generals, have reportedly asked for resignation. The proposal is to resign immediately after the summit of the foreign ministers of OIC, an organization of Islamic nations.

The military has expressed their dissatisfaction in Imran's stand on several issues including Ukraine issue. The National Assembly (Parliament) will convene at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 25 to discuss the no-confidence motion against Imran.

The law stipulates that a vote must be taken within three to seven days after considering no-confidence motion by Parliament. A show cause notice was given to 24 rebel MPs and an explanation should be given before March 26, other they will be disqualified.

Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, who was Pak President in 1972 has dismissed then Acting Army Chief and Chief of Airforce. Similarly, it is rumored that Imran will oust army chief Bajwa. Observers say that is unlikely because senior generals are on Bajwa's side. Indications are that Bajwa is interested in becoming PM.
