THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With the daily production being increased from 7000 cases (9 litres per case) to 10,000, the shortage of Jawan rum will end to some extent.

An order has been issued to open two more lines (system to fill bottles with water, colour, flavour and liquor made from spirit) at Travancore Sugars and Chemicals Ltd., a government-owned enterprise in Thiruvalla. There are currently four lines. Additional production will begin four months after the new machines arrive. Bevco has submitted a report to the government to start six lines. When the new liquor policy is announced next week, four more lines may be approved.

Malabar Brandy

Bevco is moving into brandy production after Jawan rum. The plant will be at the closed Malabar Distillery (formerly Chittoor Co-operative Sugar Mill) in Palakkad. The name 'Malabar Brandy' is being considered. The construction of the plant will start as soon as the government approves the project report of the government agency Kitco. The cost is Rs 20 crore. The goal is to produce 15,000 cases of brandy per day. The area is now monopolized by private distilleries. The Chittoor Co-operative Sugar Mill was taken over by the government when sugar production stopped due to shortage of sugarcane.
