KOCHI: A Malaysian Malayali housewife committed suicide by jumping from the 12th floor of her flat in Edappally. The deceased has been identified as Chandrika Ramachandran, 63, wife of Mohan, a resident of Ottapalam. The incident took place at 9.30 am yesterday at SI Kingsway Point flat at Kannanthottam lane in Edappally. Chandrika fell on the wall of the flat and died instantly. On hitting the wall, her leg got separated and fell into the neighbor's backyard. The neighbour who heard the noise informed the police. The police from Elamakkara station found the body on the other side of the wall.
Chandrika, who was undergoing treatment for varicose veins, had been suffering from severe depression for a long time, police said.
Chandrika and Mohanan arrived in Kochi from Malaysia on Saturday night to meet their relative who is undergoing treatment at the Ottapalam hospital. After landing, they decided to stay in the flat and go to Ottapalam in the morning. The incident took place when Mohan went to a temple with the driver in the morning. The body was taken to Kalamassery Medical College. One of their two children is in Dubai and the other is in Malaysia.
