COIMBATORE: Police have arrested Sunil Gopi, brother of actor-turned-politician Suresh Gopi MP, for committing financial fraud. The Coimbatore District Crime Branch arrested Sunil Gopi on the complaint filed by Coimbatore native Giridharan.

In his complaint, Giridharan alleged that Sunil had sold him a 4.52 acre land at Navakkara for Rs 97 lakh using an invalid title deed.

Sunil had purchased 4.52-acre land at Navakkara some time back. Later, the court ruled against the transfer of property over a civil case. However, Sunil went on to sell the property to Giridharan by hiding this fact. The transaction took place in November last year.

Rs 72 lakh was transferred to Sunil's account and Rs 25 lakh to the account of two friends. Giridharan's real estate company came to know about the scam only when Sunil demanded another Rs 1 crore. Following the arrest of Sunil Gopi, co-accused Reena and her husband Sivadas returned the money. Giridharan said Rs 26 lakh was returned in the presence of the police.
