BIRBHUM: At least 10 people were killed in clashes that broke out in Birbhum in West Bengal. The charred bodies of eight people were recovered. Twelve houses were set on fire during the clashes.
Trinamool Congress leader Bahadur Shaikh was killed in a bomb attack in Rampurhat the other day. Following this, a group of attackers reached Rampurhat today morning and set some houses on fire. It is learned that the attackers set the houses on fire as revenge for the killing of Bahadur Shaikh. The attackers locked the doors from the outside before setting the houses on fire.
The state government has appointed a three-member special investigation team to probe the incident. Meanwhile, police have denied reports which claimed that there was political animosity behind the incident.
