NEW DELHI: From next academic year, the Common University Entrance Test (CUCET) conducted by the National Testing Agency for admission to undergraduate universities will be conducted in 13 languages, including Malayalam. Graduate admission in all the 45 Central Universities will be based on the marks obtained in the General Entrance Examination from the next academic year instead of Plus Two marks. The date of application for July examination will be on next month.

Section 1A covers Malayalam, English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Marathi, Oriya, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu. Category 1B is for writers in French, German and Arabic. In addition, there are six domains: General Test, Anthropology, Accounting and Bookkeeping. The examination will be conducted in two phases, morning and afternoon based on NCERT syllabus.

UGC chairman Jagadish Kumar said other universities could also offer graduate admissions on the basis of marks in the general entrance examination. There will be no change in the reservation norms in the Central Universities. After the general entrance examination, there will be an interview and a practical examination for music, fine arts and theatre.
