NEW DELHI: Centre has directed the states to lift the Covid restrictions in the country. Centre has relaxed restrictions for public events including weddings and festivals. Ministry of Health has lifted restrictions in theaters and malls also. Educational institutions and activities in the financial sector may continue. Ministry of Health has written to the states in this regard. The letter states that states can make final decision based on their situation. At the same time, masks and social distancing should be maintained for the prevention of Covid.

The Union Home Ministry had decided to lift the restrictions under the Disaster Management Act, which was imposed on March 24, 2020 due to expansion of Covid. This order was later renewed several times by the Central Government. The last revised order expires on March 31. Ajay Bhalla, Home Secretary, said in a letter to the states that no new order would be issued.

There has been a significant decline in Covid cases in the country in the last seven weeks. Currently, 23,913 people are being treated for the disease. The daily test positivity rate is 0.28%. Vaccine distribution has also progressed. At the same time, the letter says that the guidelines of Health Ministry must be followed to prevent Covid. Masks, social distancing, and hand hygiene should be maintained. People should remain vigilant. The letter states that states can impose restrictions on their own if they notice an increase in cases.
