MAHE: A man who came to withdraw Rs 10,000 from the ATM did not just receive the money but instead lost another Rs 49,500. K M B Muneer, who tried to withdraw money using his Bank of Baroda ATM card at an SBI branch in Mahe, has lost around half a lakh rupee in the fraud.
Muneer, who went to the ATM on March 19, received a message of cash withdrawal, even though he did not receive any money. Following which, he lodged a complaint with the bank manager. After examining the complaint, the manager had informed that the money will soon be credited in his account. On March 22, I received a call from 7064176396, shown in Truecaller as Bank of Baroda helpline number, asking whether I had filed a complaint regarding the incident, said Muneer.
Later, Muneer received a call from Bank of Baroda’s customer care toll-free number 1800 1024455, asking him to fill a form for receiving the money. He gave away details such as his name, account number and the amount lost. After 10 minutes, Muneer received a message saying that Rs 49,500 was withdrawn from his account. Following the fraud, Muneer informed his bank and his account is currently frozen.
