NEW DELHI: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi arrived in New Delhi on Thursday. He is likely to meet S Jaishankar, the Union Minister of External Affairs and National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval on Friday. The government officials confirmed his arrival after Wang Yi landed in New Delhi from Afghanistan.
The visit by the Chinese minister had made controversial remarks on Kashmir at the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) meeting in Islamabad. India had strongly denounced his comments and said that other countries, including China, have no locus standi to comment on India's internal affairs.
This is the first visit of a senior Chinese leader in two years since the border stand-off between the two countries in Galwan in June 2020. There are indications that the Chinese minister's visit is to hold talks on matters that mutually affect both countries. However, there is no official word regarding the same.
