KOZHIKODE/MUKKAM: The students who turned a farewell celebration into a car-bike rally were fined and have cases charged against them. The youngsters not only bought cars and bikes for the celebrations but also a JCB.

The send-off celebrations of a group of students from Malabar Christian College Higher Secondary School and Chathamangalam MES College turned into an outrageous affair. Two students were injured when their bike overturned during a crash of vehicles at the Christian College school ground. Students were fined Rs 12,000 by the Motor Vehicle Department for reckless driving. Measures were also taken to revoke the license. Cases were charged against three cars in Kozhikode. In Chathamangalam, six vehicles including JCB were taken into custody and fined.


The incident took place on Thursday morning. The students got up on the bonnet and trunk of cars as they did dangerous acts at speed on the ground. Meanwhile, one of the bikes crashed into a car. The rider and pillion rider of the vehicle escaped unharmed. The dusty performance on the ground came after a practice session on the public road.

As the incident went viral on social media, the motor vehicle department took into custody three cars that were driven dangerously. The license plate of the bikes could not be ascertained as it was not clearly available. Motor Vehicle Inspector M Dhanesh said action would be taken soon after checking the CCTV footage of the area. All three who drove cars had licenses. Action to revoke this will be taken soon. A fine of Rs 12,000 was levied from the parents as the documents of the cars were not produced.

The celebration of the third-year students of MES College in Chathamangalam was by making a commotion at the bazar. A group of three JCBs, cars and bikes lined up for the rally. There were girls as well as boys. They were nabbed based on the video that spread on social media. JCBs and cars were soon taken into custody.
