THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Vehicle registration and fitness renewal rates will go up sharply from April 1. The state Motor Vehicles Department has issued an order in this regard as per the notification of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
The charge of renewing the registration of a 15-year-old two-wheeler has been increased from Rs 300 to Rs 1,000. The price of a car will go up from Rs 600 to Rs 5,000. The price for renewing the registration of autorickshaws will go up from Rs 600 to Rs 2,500.
The registration renewal of an imported car will cost Rs 40,000 instead of Rs 5,000. Renewal for other vehicles range from 3,000 to 6,000. Failure to renew the fitness will result in a fine of Rs 50 per day. Delay in renewal of registration carries a fine of Rs 100 for three months, Rs 200 for up to six months and Rs 300 thereafter.
