THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The home department of the state was embarrassed after a number of Yuvamorcha workers sneaked inside the secured area of the Cliff House compound and laid a survey stone of the SilverLine. Following the incident, the Home Department has taken steps to provide impeccable security to the Chief Minister. The security of the Cliff House will be fully handed over to the SISF, a state force modelled on the CISF.
An SP-ranked Deputy Commissioner will be appointed to provide security to the Chief Minister at Cliff House and Secretariat. The post of DCP has been created for this. This officer will be in charge of security coordination and supervision of both locations. The deputy commissioner will be allotted an office next to the CM's office at the secretariat. The CM has Z-plus security.
At present, there are about 500 policemen from the armed battalions, local police, SISF and Rapid Action Force to provide security to the Chief Minister. The new deputy commissioner will be coordinating the activities of these policemen.
Earlier, the DGP had reported that there was no coordination between the various security forces of the Chief Minister. The Home Department has also accepted the recommendation of the Police Chief to form a committee of officials from various departments headed by the Security DIG to assess the security of Cliff House.
