CHENNAI: A 17-year-old Plus One student eloped with his 26-year-old teacher and got married. A Pocso case has been registered against teacher Sharmila in connection with the incident in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu. The student and teacher went missing from the school on March 5. Following this, the police registered a case based on the complaint of student's parents and later registered the crime as Pocso. The two were arrested by the police last Thursday.
According to the police, the boy had gone missing on March 5, and a complaint was filed by his parents. Upon inquiry at the school, it was found that the teacher Sharmila had also gone missing the same day. The police further traced their mobile numbers and found that both the numbers were switched off at the same time. On further inquiry, the police found that the duo had been in a relationship.
A few days later, it was found that one of the phones was working from another number in Trichy. The two were arrested from Trichy. The investigation revealed that they got married at a temple in Thanjavur and lived in a rented house in Trichy. A Pocso case was registered against the teacher as the student was not 18 years old. The student was later sent to a juvenile home.
This is the fourth Pocso case against teachers in Tamil Nadu that happened this week. Two school teachers and a college assistant professor have been arrested in the past one week.
