MUMBAI: A history will be made in Chennai Super Kings IPL inaugural match on Saturday. This is the first time Mahendra Singh Dhoni will be playing as a regular player and not as a captain. Two days ago, Dhoni announced his decision to step down as captain of the Chennai Super Kings. Ravindra Jadeja will lead Chennai team in this IPL. Dhoni had said that he had informed the Indian cricketer in advance of his decision to step down and to choose Jadeja as captain.
Although this is Dhoni's first time as a regular player in IPL, he has earlier played not as a captain for the Chennai team in the 2012 Champions Trophy T20 match against English county team Yorkshire. Suresh Raina led Chennai then. Dhoni, who was the wicket-keeper in that match, bowled for two overs.
As per reports, this might be 40-year old cricketer's last IPL season. Dhoni has been the captain of Chennai for 14 years and is one of the stars of IPL. Fans are sad that this might the last time they can watch him play in IPL.
