KOCHI: The Communist Party of India (CPI) has taken action against a local leader who took part in the anti-Silver Line agitation involving Congress leaders. The disciplinary action is against Piravom LC secretary KC Thankachan. Thankachan was removed from the post of local committee secretary and from the constituency committee membership. The party's assistant secretary Prakash Babu had criticized the government yesterday, saying that not all participants in the anti-Silver Line agitation are not enemies of the Left and why the city and police officials are in a hurry.
Thankachan had admitted that he had made a mistake by participating in the agitation involving Congress leaders. Following this, the constituency committee which met on Saturday took action against him. But Thankachan will continue to be a member of the local committee. According to party sources, Thankachan was not expelled from the party as he is a senior leader of the party in the Piravom constituency.
Meanwhile, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw had said that the Central Government had not given permission for the Silver Line project as the DPR submitted by Kerala was incomplete. The central government informed this in its reply to Adoor Prakash MP.
