THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Suresh (40), son of C Prabhakaran and Sudha of Nelliyode Mele Charuvila Puthen Veettil, faced brutal torture when he was taken into custody at the Thiruvallam police station. He died of cardiac arrest due to the police torture, said one who was in custody along with Suresh. The case has been handed over to the CBI after revelation of custodial torture.
Circle inspector Suresh V Nair, grade sub inspector Sajeev and two home guards thrashed him brutally. The police didn’t even bother to take him to the hospital after he suffered a discomfort, vomited thrice and was not able to breathe properly. Though the circle inspector’s jeep was in the station, he was not taken to the hospital. His life could not be saved by the time he was taken to the hospital in another private vehicle.
The police started torturing him and his four friends on the complaint of attacking a couple. Suresh was beaten on his leg and thrashed brutally in front of the station and inside.
Home guard Unnikrishnan and another person kicked him with their boots. On the next day, the circle inspector made him do tough exercises. He was asked to do 101 sit-ups, frog jump and 50 pushups. He was made to call Inquliab Zindabad 50 times. He was then locked up in jail. He vomited thrice and then suffered a chest pain and was not able to breathe. The circle inspector opened the cell but did not take him to the hospital. He was later taken to the Poonthura hospital in a private vehicle with two cops and then in another private hospital, but he had died by then.
