MUMBAI: Malayalee pacer Basil Thampi performed well in his debut in the Mumbai Indians jersey for IPL. His debut was in the first match against Delhi Capitals today. Basil took two wickets in an over and a total of three wickets in the match. Prithviraj Shah (38), Rowman Powell (0) and Shardul Thakur (22) were the batsmen the dismissed.

Basil took a two wickets in the tenth over. In the second ball of the tenth over, opener Prithviraj Shah was bowled by wicketkeeper Ishant Kishan and in the fourth ball of the same over, Rowman Powell was caught by Sams. In the 14th over, Basil dismissed Shardul Thakur. He took three wickets for 35 runs in four overs. He took the most wickets for Mumbai. Murugan Ashwin took two wickets and Mills one.

But Basil's excellent bowling performance could not save Mumbai. Mumbai lost the first match of the new season of the IPL. Batting first, Mumbai scored 177 for five in the allotted 20 overs. Ishant Kishan (81 off 48 balls) was the top scorer for Mumbai. In reply, Delhi Capital chased down the target with six balls to spare, losing six wickets. Lalit Yadav (48 off 38 balls), Shardul Thakur (22 off 11 balls) and Akshar Patel (38 off 17 balls) were the main contributors to the Delhi Capitals' victory in the final overs.
