NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court has given permission to the state government to proceed with the survey for social impact study related to the K Rail project. The apex court rejected the plea seeking a stay on the survey for social impact study. The Supreme Court asked what was wrong with the survey and then criticised the single bench of the high court for staying the social impact study and upheld the action of the division bench. The court also ruled that the survey of a massive project could not be prevented.
Today’s Supreme Court order is a relief to the state government following protests from all sides including the front. The laying of survey stones for the project was suspended due to strong protests. People are reacting in harsh language to party workers who go from house to house to explain to them about the project.
Meantime, CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury said the government has the full support of the party central leadership for the project. The CPM state leadership and the government are handling the issue very well. The central leadership is satisfied over it. Talks are on between the state and the central governments. Let’s see how it goes. The protests against the government is an issue to be handled by the government. The central leadership need not intervene in it. Will intervene only if the state seeks guidance. The state government should examine whether extremist organisations are intervening in the protests, said Yechury.
