THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Only 32 employees came to work in the secretariat on the day of the general strike. According to the Public Administration Department, the Secretariat has 4,828 employees. Most of the ministers did not attend the secretariat today.
Chief Secretary V P Joy arrived at the office early morning. Main staff in the Chief Secretary's office also came to work. Secretariat workers' unions have announced their support for the strike.
The administrative activities of the secretariat came to a standstill as the staff were absent. Attendance at other government offices was also low. Earlier, the High court had strongly criticized government employees for being part of the strike.
The High Court has ordered government employees not to participate in the strike and also ruled that government employees have no right to strike. The court said these were clearly stated in the service rules and asked the government to issue an order today.
