CHENGANNUR: A scooter parked in front of a house at Cheriyanad caught fire at night. The incident happened on Saturday night. A major disaster was averted after locals intervened to prevent the fire from spreading to the house. The scooter belonged to a family consisting of a housewife and two daughters living in a rented house in Cheriyanad. Only the housewife and her children were at home at the time of the incident. The scooter was completely burnt out. The whole house was filled with smoke as the fire spread.

Earlier, a youth in the neighbourhood was booked for mounting a mobile camera in the girls' bathroom and trying to record videos. Police suspect that this youth might have set the scooter on fire as revenge. Chengannur police said they were investigating the matter.
