KOCHI: Police have arrested two persons, including a CPM local secretary, for assaulting the secretary of the Pindimana panchayat on Monday morning. The arrested have been identified as CPM Pindimana local secretary Biju P Nair and Jaison. They have been arrested for threatening and assaulting panchayat secretary K Manoj who was on duty.

Manoj, who was injured in the attack, was shifted to the Taluk Hospital for first aid and later to a private hospital for specialist treatment. On Monday morning, the protesters went to the panchayat office and threatened Manoj. Later, while working under police protection, the protesters reached the office and assaulted him. The Kothamangalam police arrested the two after finding them involved in the incident.

Meanwhile, the government has declared dies non as a countermeasure to the strike of the government employees.
