THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala will get a prize of Rs 20 crores for bagging the first position in the Centre's National Urban Livelihood Mission for the upliftment of the urban poor in the state.


Kerala surpassed other states in the SPARK rankings by completing various levels of the scheme such as loans without security, job training, employment and women empowerment. The project is being implemented by Kudumbashree. Kerala bagged the first position by implementing activities worth Rs 38 crore in 2020-21. The state had bagged second and third in the last two years.

The scheme will provide assistance in all the 93 municipalities in the state. There will be an extensive system under the leadership of the NULM project officer at Kudumbashree Headquarters and city mission managers with MBA degrees in municipalities. Community managers at Kudumbasree will coordinate activities at lower levels.

If one has an idea to start a new venture one should meet the NULM city mission managers in the municipalities. The city mission managers will give guidance regarding the project. Once approved, the person can apply for a bank loan. These loans are unsecured. The person who applies for this loan should have an annual income of less than Rs 1 lakh.
