SALEM: Many people save money to buy the things they love the most. V Bhoopathi, a native of Salem, bought a bike worth Rs 2.6 lakh with the one rupee coins he saved over three years.

The youth came to the showroom with a pile of one rupee coins to get the Bajaj Dominar 400. At first the showroom manager Mahavikranth was hesitant to accept the payment in coins but later gave in as he did not want to disappoint Bhoopathi. It took about 10 hours to count all the coins.

Bhoopathi (29), a graduate, wanted to buy a bike three years ago but was not in a position to pay that much money then. Bhoopathi says that he decided to save one rupee coins to raise money for the bike. In three years, he filled his room with one rupee coins. Eventually, he came to buy his dream bike with the coins. The coins were brought in a van and taken to the showroom in a wheelbarrow.
