ALAPPUZHA: Minister Saji Cherian paid a direct visit to Chengannur, an area where strong protests are going on against the SilverLine project. The minister, who arrived in a two-wheeler, said that he has convinced the people of all matters including the compensation.
The people’s concerns have been resolved, he said. The minister visited 20 houses in Chengannur. ‘I was able to clear the misunderstandings of all the residents of the houses that I visited today’, he added.
In Kuzhuvalloor, the survey stone, which was uprooted under the leadership of Ramesh Chennithala, was restored in the minister’s presence. The locals had agreed to restore the survey stones only after being assured of compensation directly by the minister.
Meantime, some of the housewives of the area said that the protests have not ended and that they were unable to meet the minister. However, some others opined that they were ready to leave the place if land is bought and new houses are built for them.
