THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state cabinet is likely to take a decision today to recommend to the Governor to reintroduce the outdated ordinances, including the controversial Lokayukta amendment. There is curiosity regarding the stand that will be taken by the CPI ministers who had opposed the Lokayukta amendment.
Meanwhile, the Left Front meeting that will take place today evening will reach an agreement on bus fare hike and liquor policy. Only then will the government take a decision on these matters. If the liquor policy is approved by the Front meeting today, it will be considered by the next cabinet meeting. If the LDF agrees on the bus fare hike, a decision can be taken at the departmental level without reaching the cabinet.
The government had found itself on the defensive after the CPI publicity opposed the hasty Lokayukta amendment introduced without consultation. The controversy was temporarily resolved with the governor signing the ordinance. When the cabinet passed the ordinance, the CPI ministers did not oppose it, which led to criticism within the party. The dissatisfaction of the CPI was later expressed by the party ministers in the cabinet meeting.
