KOCHI: The Catholic church said that it will not blindly support the SilverLine project. The church expressed its stance through an article written by Dr Michael Pulickal in the church daily Deepika. Many questions related to the project still remain unanswered. The concerns of the people should be allayed, demanded the article.
‘The project cannot be blindly supported without clear explanations of certain questions raised on the K-Rail issue and without allaying the public’s concerns’, stated the article clarifying the church’s current stance.
There are various social and economic questions prevailing among the people regarding the project. The government should take immediate action to resolve these and allay the people’s concerns, said the article. The church also said that using police to forcefully conduct surveys and lay stones in private lands are a matter of concern.
The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) and other financial experts have warned that Kerala is moving towards a major economic collapse. In such a situation, an attempt to implement the K-Rail project by borrowing huge sums of money, setting aside even the basic necessities, could have severe repercussions, the article pointed.
