THRISSUR: A clash erupted between councillors of the ruling party and the opposition during the presentation of the budget in the Thrissur Corporation. The clash broke out after the opposition alleged that the draft of the AMRUT city project was submitted to the Centre without informing the council. The opposition tore up the budget.

The commotion started when the opposition members surrounded Mayor MK Varghese who was trying to make an introductory speech. Opposition members also tried to stop Deputy Mayor Rajshree Gopan from presenting the budget. A scuffle broke out after the ruling party members came under the leadership of Varghese Kandankulathy to prevent opposition members from creating a scene. The opposition overturned the table on which the mic was placed. Opposition leader Rajan Pallan asked whether the AMRUT Master Plan draft had been sent to the central government without informing the Council. The opposition councillors started protesting and surrounded the Mayor as he opted to present the budget without responding to the opposition leader's question.

Opposition's Jayaprakash Poovathinkal, Mukesh Kulaparambil and Lali James fell on the ground during the clash. Lali James' saree was torn. Congress councillor Indira Muraleedharan's hand was injured.
