rape

BHOPAL: A minor girl was allegedly raped by her friend in a government-run luxury guest house. The 17-year-old girl was left on the roadside after being sexually assaulted. The incident took place in the Rewa district of Madhya Pradesh on Monday.

The rape occurred inside a circuit house located at the district headquarters, a day prior to Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's scheduled visit to Rewa, said the police. The girl is a student at Government Degree College for Girls (GDC) in Rewa.

The girl was reportedly taken to the circuit house by one of her friends, who promised to assist her in achieving excellent grades in the examination. She was allegedly raped there and was made to drink liquor. There were five or six persons in the room. They were all drunk, stated the complaint.

The accused had threatened the girl of grave repercussions if she told anybody about the assault. She was left off at the roadside by around 11:30 pm. Initially, the police were not ready to take case against the accused as the people , whose names she listed in the complaint, have strong political connections, alleged the girl’s relatives.

According to the victim's relatives, the girl was detained in the police station for the whole night and was not permitted to speak to anybody. The police filed the case only after local leaders intervened in the matter. Meantime, the police officials said that one of the accused has been arrested and a manhunt is underway for the remaining suspects.
