march

KOCHI: A transgender group marched to the Aluva police station in protest against the behaviour of a policewoman who demanded a gender test. The group demand the suspension of the accused woman police officer.

The march turned violent after the police blocked the protesters. According to the allegation, a woman police officer asked a transgender who came to the police station to lodge a sexual assault complaint to verify her gender. The complaint accused three people of harassing the transgender near a pond.

However, the Aluva police demanded that a gender test be conducted before accepting the complaint. The complainant also says that the police officer was not willing to accept the gender reassignment surgery certificate.

In protest, thirty transgender people marched to the station. The road in front of the station was closed to traffic for two hours following the conflict.
