ISLAMABAD: The situation of Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has worsened. As the no-confidence motion against the Prime Minister is about to take place, the main ally has left the government thus giving a big blow.
The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), the main ally has left the government. Both their ministers have resigned. With this, Imran has lost the majority. Another ally, the Balochistan Awami Party, has said it will join the opposition alliance.
This brings the total to 176 members in the opposition alliance. In 342-member parliament, a no-confidence motion requires 172 votes to win. Imran Khan is trying to retain the majority by bringing back the factions that have left the government.
Imran Khan directed all PTI members to abstain from the assembly on polling day as all 24 rebels in Imran's party had joined the opposition. The move is aimed at preventing members from changing their allegiance.
Meanwhile, Imran Khan has filed a petition in the Pakistan Supreme Court seeking a lifetime ban on defectors. Today, the Prime Minister is addressing the nation as a last resort to stay in power. The announcement was made by Information and Broadcasting Minister Chaudhry Fawad Hussain.
Shahbaz Gill, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister of Pakistan, has announced that Imran Khan will not be stepping down as Prime Minister. Gill said he would firmly stand and fight to recover from the crisis.
