THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Congress chief Jose K Mani hinted an amendment in the government’s liquor policy. He clarified his stand in the context of the new liquor policy coming into effect in the state from today. There is concern in some places and Mani demanded an amendment.

K Rail's stand has already been clarified. We can move forward only by taking people into confidence. He also said that there is an attempt to spread misconceptions in some places.


As part of the new liquor policy, it has been decided to open more liquor outlets in the state. The price of liquor from military and paramilitary canteens will increase. Various fees of bars were also increased. License will be permitted to beer and wine parlors in IT parks. The brewery license will also come into force. The first date will remain a dry day.

More outlets are opening as part of reducing congestion in liquor outlets. Closed shops will be reopened as premium shops. The Beverages Corporation has demanded the opening of 170 more outlets. Production will be increased by starting new units. Existing licensees will be given permission to operate toddy shops as toddy tapping industry board has not started functioning.
