KOTTAYAM: Huge protests erupted in the Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) against opposition leader V D Satheesan’s statement. There are around 18 lakh workers in the organization. When the elections come, not even a single leader will be there to raise flags or put up posters. Only INTUC members are there to do it. We will continue the protest till the opposition leader withdraws his statement, said the union leaders at Changanassery.

The opposition leader had expressed his opposition towards the strike turning into a hartal. Earlier, Satheesan had opined that INTUC is not a feeder organization of the Congress and that it was not necessary for the organization to listen to what the party says. Those who question the people’s rights, whoever it be, will not be accepted, he said. The leader also stated that he will inform the INTUC about the opposition towards strikes.

Despite their opposition to V D Satheesan, the leaders of the organization clarified that no one will leave the Congress. We too are of Congress blood. Let the Congress national leadership say no to our votes, said the leaders. Meantime, INTUC state president R Chandrasekhar has rejected the organization’s protest in Changanassery. The district presidents have been instructed not to hold similar protests elsewhere, he said.
