Minister V Sivankutty has given sharp reply to the Hindutva organizations’ propaganda that those who eat biriyani will not have children. The minister responded to the fake campaign, launched by extremist Hindutva groups targeting Muslim businesses in Tamil Nadu, through a Facebook post. He shared the post with the caption ‘Then let’s have biriyani for lunch today’.
It has been widely propagated that shops add infertility pills into the biriyani. The proponents of these campaigns allege that such shops are aimed at sterilizing Hindus. Similar propaganda was also seen in the states of Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra last year. The pictures and notes of the same were widely circulated on a Facebook account namely Biryani Jihad in Coimbatore. Following which, the Coimbatore city police issued a statement asking not to share such fake news.
The picture shared by Minister V Sivankutty also mentions about having onion curry instead of biriyani. The pictures of BJP state president K Surendran and friends dining in a small shop had been widely circulated a few years ago. The picture, which got circulated with the caption ‘BJP leader from Kerala who eats beef,’ led to a lot of trolls as well. Surendran’s explanation that he had eaten only onion curry and not beef, was also extensively trolled. It was in relation to this that Sivankutty scoffed about eating onion curry instead of biriyani.
