NEW DELHI: For the first time in history, the BJP has scored a century in the number of MPs in the Rajya Sabha. With the victory of three BJP candidates from the north-eastern states of Assam, Tripura and Nagaland, the number of BJP members in the Rajya Sabha has risen to 100. The last time a party had 100 or more seats in the Upper House was in 1990 when the then ruling Congress had 108 members. Although the party's strength in the Rajya Sabha has crossed 100, the BJP is still a minority in the 245-member assembly.

In Assam, the BJP ally UPPL also won following a mistake by a Congress MLA. In the recently held biennial polls for 13 Rajya Sabha seats across six states, the BJP lost its solitary seat from Punjab. In Punjab, the AAP won all five seats.
