THRISSUR: A chicken was sacrificed at Sree Kurumba Bhagavathy temple in Kodungallur in violation of the ban on such practices. The police have taken two people into custody in the incident. The accused have been identified as Adityanath Surendran and Sunil Thandassery.

The incident took place at around 8 am on Saturday. Both of them were spotted slaughtering the chicken at the northern entrance. Following which, they were taken into custody as per the Kerala Animals and Bird Sacrifices Prohibition Act.

In the past, devotees used to perform chicken sacrifices at the Sree Kurumba Bhagavathy temple in Kodungallur. However, there were strict directions to end such practices as per the Animals and Bird Sacrifices Prohibition Act.

When Adityanath and Sunil sacrificed the chicken, the police and Devaswom officials, who were present, had intervened and arrested them.
