THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Rajya Sabha member Elamaram Kareem on Saturday said that the UDF and BJP are united in their agitation against K Rail in the state. He opined that there is nothing wrong with implementing development projects by taking loans. But, he added that care should be taken to misuse the funds.

He also blamed the media reporting regarding anti-K Rail agitation. "The media can twist things out of proportion. The UDF and the BJP have three media outlets. Otherwise, the strike would not have gone on like this", Kareem said.

At the same time, there was a public response in the state for and against the project on Saturday. During a BJP awareness program against K-rail by Union Minister V Muraleedharan, a housewife chanted pro-government slogans.

This happened when V Muraleedharan visited the house of CPM councilor LS Kavitha. When the BJP team came here in the morning, only the councilor's parents were at home.

"I am a mother of two daughters. Our property will be given for the project. We are with the government. The project will be implemented despite opposition", said the housewife.

"We can go to Guruvayur in an hour and a half without depending on anyone. We are happy. It is a development project that will benefit the next generation. Even if our life is on the line, we will implement it, 'she added.

Opposition leader VD Satheesan, however, said that K Rail's DPR is full of false information and statistics. He said that time will prove that the Congress, which opposes K Rail along with the people, is right.
