THRISSUR: Total 3000 coupons, price of one coupon Rs 1000, the winner of lucky draw will get 68 cents of rubber plantation. Thrissur Puthukkad native Muji Thomas and his wife Baisy are planning to sell their land in a different way. As it became popular, coupons were bought by people from abroad also.The draw will be held on August 15 at Maria Garments in Nairangadi.
If the draw fails, it will be held on another date. Coupon will be refunded in case of any interruptions.
1000 coupons were sold out. The locals were informed that the land would be given free to the lucky draw winner. For this, a poster was pasted inside the compound. The news about the sale thus went viral on social media as well. The couple did this when they faced financial crisis and found themselves unable to pay for their son’s education. But nobody came forward to buy the land at the value set by them. Baisy said that this idea crossed her mind out of the blue and she discussed it with her husband. They talked to an advocate to understand the legal undertakings required and decided to go forth with the plan.
Meanwhile, a Malayalee in Japan had said yesterday that he could buy the entire land for Rs 30 lakh. However, as ticket sales continued, they did not agree. The lucky winner of the draw will receive this property. There were several calls from the Gulf asking for tickets. Their son Aby, who is preparing to go abroad is also answering calls.
The cost of registration should be borne by the recipient of the land. As the details of the sale became public, there may be questions from the Income Tax Departmentas well.
"This was an attempt out of necessity. We are happy that people supported us. The problem is that we face difficulty in accepting and receiving so many calls. " said Muji Thomas and Baisy.
